CHINESE ENGINE BY STYLE
Regardless of the Name “Brand” promoted on the vehicle, it is best to find parts by engine or vehicle type. The different
Styles of Engines used are listed below.
“POCKET/MINI” 2-STROKE ENGINE
CC Range: 22-49cc
Descriptive Features:
2-Stroke Engines are commonly found in units referred to as “Pocket” style units. ie: Pocket Bike, Pocket Quad and Pocket
Scooter. They have become common place due to the affordable pricing offered for these vehicles. Many of the MT-A1
Style engines can be found in both Pocket Bikes and Pocket Quads. The MT-A1 Motor is actually a 47cc Engine, however
it is generally promoted by manufacturers as a 49cc engine. The other X Style Engines are commonly found in more
performance 2-Stroke units and also on stand up scooters. When seeking parts be sure of the engine type and check the
item description to ensure its compatibility.
Tech Tip:
When replacing engine accessories such as clutch, carburetor, drive sprocket and recoils, it is recommended to simply
replace the entire part assembly. It’s very cost effective.

4-STROKE “HORIZONTAL” ENGINE
CC Range: 50-125cc
Descriptive Features:
Horizontal Style Engines are commonly used in many of the small/mid sized units and offer a variety of choices. These
engines come in automatic, semi-automatic and manual. The majority of units are electric start only. Select manufacturers
have used kick start models for many dirtbike configurations. These engines are all the same in size from 50-125cc (Some
140/155cc models were also sold but rare). The large majority of these engines are air cooled, some performance versions
offer oil cooled as well.
Tech Tip:
It is important to note the position of the starting motor for space consideration if exchanging a complete motor and/or
when ordering parts. Use Outside Distributing’s website for additional trouble shooting tips, descriptions and images. www.
